Crafting with flower pots:
creative ideas - for your home

Spang flower pots are perfect for upcycling projects! Instead of throwing away discarded pots, they can be creatively painted, glued on or repurposed. This creates unique little items for home and garden and lovely gift ideas.

A second life for defective pots

Even with the greatest care, it can still happen that our planters crack or even break completely. Defective or cracked flower pots are far too precious to end up in the bin! Our Spang terracotta pots in particular can be reused wonderfully, even if they are broken. Place the shards at the bottom of your planters and benefit from the water-retaining properties - and optimized aeration of the plant roots!

Craft projects for every season

Autumnal pumpkin pots, Christmas candle holders, Easter bunnies, or summery planters with a nautical look – there are no limits to creativity with our Spang flowerpots. The natural materials can be painted, decorated, written on with chalkboard chalk, or easily transformed into lanterns, hanging planters, or flower towers. Custom-designed flowerpots make ideal gifts. Whether for Mother's Day, as a gift for good friends, or for a birthday: Spang flowerpots only need a few ideas to become a small, lovingly crafted, unique piece.

Craft ideas

Scarecrows

Materials

Medium flower pots, beige acrylic paint, hay or raffia, felt scraps, fabric scraps, buttons, brushes, hot glue.

Instructions

Paint the flower pot in a light beige shade and leave to dry thoroughly. Glue on felt scraps as eyes, mouth and nose to create the scarecrow's face. Cut out small squares from scraps of fabric and attach them to the pot as patches. Fill the pot with hay or raffia and leave some of it sticking out of the top edge to imitate the scarecrow's “hair”. These little scarecrows are perfect as an autumnal table decoration.

Hanging bird feeder

Materials

A large flower pot, thick string or rope, wooden stick, peanut butter or vegetable fat, bird food (e.g. sunflower seeds, oat flakes, nuts), scissors, hot glue.

Instructions

  1. Thread the string through the hole in the bottom of the flower pot and knot it tightly so that the pot can be hung up later.
  2. Fill the pot halfway with a mixture of birdseed and melted vegetable fat or peanut butter.
  3. Place the wooden stick across the hole at the bottom for the birds to land on.
  4. Allow the mixture to harden and hang the bird feeder from a tree.

Standing bird feeder

Materials

Medium flower pot, wooden disk or sturdy plate, waterproof paints, wooden stick, birdseed, hot glue.

Instructions

  1. Paint the flower pot in weatherproof colors and let it dry well.
  2. Glue the wooden disk or plate upside down on the top edge of the flower pot.
  3. Push a wooden stick through the hole so that it serves as a stand.
  4. Scatter bird food on the plate and place the bird feeder in the garden.

Terracotta hedgehog shelter

Materials

Large terracotta pot, leaves or hay, tile adhesive or mortar, weatherproof paint (optional), paintbrush.

Instructions

  1. Place the flower pot upside down in a sheltered corner of your garden so that the hole serves as an entrance.
  2. Stabilize the pot at the bottom with mortar or tile adhesive to prevent it from tipping over.
  3. Fill the inside with dry leaves or hay to make it cozy for the hedgehog.
  4. Optional: paint the pot discreetly to make it blend in with the garden environment.

Hedgehog cave with green roof

Materials

Large flower pot, wooden planks or thick branches, potting soil, moss, grasses or hardy plants.

Instructions

  1. Place the flower pot on its side so that the hole serves as an entrance.
  2. Cover the top of the pot with branches or boards to create a roof.
  3. Cover the roof with potting compost and plant moss or grasses to make it look more natural.
  4. Fill the cave with leaves or straw and place it in a quiet spot in the garden.
