Green thumb
made easy
With our planters, you can give your plants a feel-good home. But looks alone do not make a green thumb! So what exactly makes Spang planters the perfect home for your plants?
Frost-resistant - naturally!
Spang pots are highly frost-resistant by nature. Our terracotta planters in particular are robust and ideal for outdoor use. To maximize frost resistance, the planters should be placed in such a way that water does not pool in or around the pot. Because freezing water expands - and could crack the clay of the pots. We like to recommend lining the bases of our planters with terracotta shards. This not only acts as drainage, but also serves as a water reservoir - and to loosen the soil.
Water correctly - and save water in the process
Water is the elixir of life for your plants. Our products made from natural clay are permeable to air and allow the soil to breathe: excess water can both drain away via the hole in the base and evaporate via the clay wall. In this way, we ensure that your plants remain healthy all round. At Spang, we attach great importance to water-saving solutions which minimize the amount of care required and at the same time promote the health of the plants. Our outdoor planters are equipped with drainage mechanisms that drain off excess water and thus reduce the risk of waterlogging and root rot. Water drainage can be further improved with special clay feet from our range. They ensure that the pots do not stand in water - this keeps the roots healthy and ensures air circulation. Incidentally, you can significantly reduce the amount of water required by placing clay shards inside the planter! The clay shards store moisture and gradually release it to the roots. This ensures a permanent water supply and reduces the amount of watering required.
Our pots are blooming too!
After some time in use, you will notice so-called efflorescence on our pots - especially on the popular terracotta planters. Efflorescence is a natural deposit of minerals and salts that occurs when water evaporates through the porous material of our planters, leaving minerals behind. The efflorescence is not a defect, but a quality feature that emphasizes the natural and authentic look of the pots. The rustic, aged look adds character and charm. If you don't want efflorescence, you can easily remove it with a brush and a vinegar and water solution.

Which plant for which pot: making the right choice
Every plant has specific needs in terms of space, air circulation, moisture and root growth. Spang planters are therefore available in various shapes and sizes, so you are always guaranteed to find the right home for your plants!
Plants with deep roots
For plants with deep roots - such as tomatoes, roses or shrubs - tall, deep pots that offer sufficient space for root growth are recommended. These pots support solid rooting and prevent the plant from tipping over..
Plants with shallow roots
Plants such as herbs, succulents or strawberries have shallower root systems and therefore benefit from wide, shallow pots. These pots offer a broader top surface and ensure good aeration of the roots.
Cacti and succulents
Succulents and cacti require pots that are well aerated and allow water to drain away quickly to prevent waterlogging. Porous materials such as terracotta are particularly suitable for this.
Hanging plants
Hanging plants such as ivy or hanging geraniums thrive well in hanging baskets that offer enough space for the hanging shoots.
Sustainable gardening with Spang
At Spang, we value high-quality products and the responsible use of natural resources. Right from the production stage, we use efficient processes and modern technology to keep water and energy consumption as low as possible - and of course we constantly avoid the use of plastics. Whenever possible, our planters are delivered without unnecessary packaging materials. Sometimes it is not possible to do completely without packaging. Here we rely on environmentally friendly, reusable or recycled materials.
