Making a flowerpot
The life of our flowerpots begins in our beautiful region. Here, in the Westerwald region, we store some of the world's finest clays in various qualities and firing colors. We have been using local raw materials for our flowerpots for over 100 years. This keeps delivery routes extremely short and our environmental impact minimal. As soon as the raw materials reach our factory, our work begins – and a new flowerpot is created.
The production process
The delivered raw material is first processed into clay bodies, the compositions and qualities of which are largely ensured fully automatically using state-of-the-art technology. The production systems, which are precisely tailored to the needs of our company, are designed by us and produced in our in-house metalworking shop. Production tools and pot molds are manufactured on our CNC-controlled processing islands. The company's own machines carry out manufacturing and finishing processes - such as the aforementioned preparation of raw materials.
For many years, we have relied on process control systems that are programmed and continuously improved in-house. As soon as the raw material has been processed, it is shaped into the desired form. Each flower pot undergoes a customized firing process that ensures the necessary stability and durability. In some cases, our pots are additionally coated with glazes that refine and protect the surfaces. The glazes are made from natural materials that fuse with the clay during the firing process. Manual quality controls ensure that your new Spang flower pot is guaranteed to leave our factory free of defects. Our experienced employees check whether the clay has been fired correctly, without air pockets or microcracks. At the end of the production line, we hold a new flower pot in our hands, which will soon find its way to our customers.
Focus on sustainability
One focus in the production of our flower pots is on minimizing waste and the efficient use of raw materials. Our entire production is geared towards a “no waste” principle: We recycle all materials, keep water consumption low through treatment and use the heat from the firing process to reduce our energy requirements. Our finished products also support this approach. If, for example, a flower pot is damaged by frost, the fragments can simply be placed in the ground, where they serve as water storage or loosening material. Of course, sustainability does not end at the end of the production line at Spang.
We also take a minimalist approach to packaging - packaging materials are only used if transportation would otherwise not be possible without risk. To ensure that we maintain control of our supply chain at all times, we have our own fleet of trucks for procuring raw materials. What's more, our Spang flower pots are real long-term companions. Thanks to their elaborate production process and high-quality workmanship, they are not only visually appealing, but also durable - with the right care, you can enjoy them for many decades!
